PE for
Homeschoolers Looks like homeschoolers are going to
have lots of choices for PE. There are three San Antonio Park
and Recreation Centers offering or ready to start programs for
homeschoolers. Don't let this opportunity slip away.

Update on Disney on Ice Disney on Ice is now available for online orders, you don't have to
follow the special instructions to call in your order. Seats start
at just $10. You can continue to order for 101 Dalmatian, South Pacific, Young
Frankenstein!
Young Birders Club
We are looking for a few serious young birders to form the
beginning of our Young Birders Club Our target ages are 9 -
14; if you have a younger child who is 'bird-brainy', let us
know and we'll consider an exception. Parents are
welcome to attend with their child or we have nice outdoor
areas where you can wait. You could also take a hike
during class time along one of Friedrich Parks excellent
trails.
Audition Time
The Parks and Recreation Department is looking for aspiring
musicians and vocalists ages 13 to 18 for our youth band
TAKE NOTE. If you play the drums and/or percussion,
acoustic, electric or bass guitar, keyboard, or saxophone,
you are invited to submit an audition tape by Feb. 26. We
are also looking for male and female vocalists.
DIiscover DIGISTAR 3! Imagine a planetarium theater where all the sights and sounds are
created digitally. A theater where the dome is covered with
breathtaking images and the audience is immersed in the images of
outer space. “Digital theater” has arrived in San Antonio and is
now available at the Scobee Planetarium!
Summer
Youth Recreation Program The income verification
process opens for the 2010 Summer Youth Recreation Program. Parents
wishing to utilize the sliding fee scale based on income are invited
to complete the income verification process by coming to the Ron
Darner Parks and Recreation Operations Headquarters .
Cibolo Outdoor Classroom Guide Training
and Organizational Meeting We need you! Please come to
our spring Outdoor Classroom organization meeting and see if you would
like to become a Trail Guide with this award-winning program. Help us
lead children in fun-filled educational activities that teach about
natural systems and the importance of conserving our natural
resources. No formal teaching experience necessary.
“Celebrate America” Deadline Extended The immigration law firm De Mott, McChesney, Curtright & Associates
announced today that the entry deadline for a writing contest for
fifth grade students has been extended. Submissions for “Celebrate
America”, a writing contest sponsored by the American Immigration
Council, will now be accepted through Friday, February 12, 2010, the
birthday of Abraham Lincoln (and three days before Presidents’ Day, in
which Lincoln’s and George Washington’s birthdays are observed).
San Antonio Missions Baseball Math and
Weather Days Each year we have a couple of day games to
use as education days for students of San Antonio. We typically
have up to 50 different schools represented at each game. This
year our day games will be a Math Day on May 3rd and a Weather Day on
May 5th. The games are at 11:05 and are usually over around 2:00.
We have tickets for $5.50 in the outfield reserved and $6.50 in the
upper reserved, and kids are allowed to bring in sack lunches on these
days. In addition to the baseball game, their will be
educational programs and games throughout the day to help stimulate
learning.
Homeschool Volleyball League
The Lou Hamilton Community Center is hosting a Volleyball League for
homeschooled kids, ages 9-13. We'll meet every Thursday, beginning
Jan. 7th, from 12-1:30pm. It's open to both boys and girls, no
experience needed. The first couple of weeks will be devoted to skills
and drills, and they will begin playing games the following week.
